It is no secret that the air quality inside of most buildings is poor, due to the constant circulation of air that may include common annoyances like germs, allergens, reduced oxygen levels, and out-gassing pollution from ordinary, everyday materials. Now, in a move to improve the quality of the air for the infants and pre-school children in its childcare programs, The Goddard School, at 255 Route 70, in Toms River, NJ, has turned to a Space-Age technology called Radiant Catalytic Ionization, or simply RCI. RCI is a combination of high-intensity UV-X germicidal light and a space-age metallic oxide matrix that *scrubs* the air. It is the same technology used by NASA to filter the air inside the Space shuttle.
The RCI system brings the benefits of Space-Age Technology right down to Earth, by reducing the incidence of seasonal illness, such as colds, flu and allergies. The system eliminates cold and flu germs, mold spores and pollen that may circulate via the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system. And, because this technology is derived directly from the U.S. Space Program, the system has received certification by the Space Foundation, the non-profit organization that promotes the practical utilization of NASA space technologies.
*Big improvements in air quality were seen by NASA. And, people who suffer from respiratory distress during allergy season, also note significant relief from colds and flu during the winter season, too. Here at The Goddard School, we are absolutely committed to the safety, health and welfare of the children in our care. That is why we invested in this system -- to reduce the nasty seasonal complaints that parents and teachers dread,* says Ms. Dana Chibbaro (CQ), owner and operator of the school.
Because The Goddard School constantly monitors and records the cause of any health related incidents, even student absences, Ms. Dana expects to realize the benefits of this new technology in just a few months. The RCI system has an estimated lifetime of 25,000 hours (3 years) before it needs servicing.
